Cadet Problems || Will & Kitty

"Psst. Kitty. Psssssssssssssssssst."
Will was not supposed to be in the women's barracks
but since when had that ever stopped him? He was
kneeling by her bedside, shaking her sleeping form
gently but relentlessly.

Though Kitty had not graduated at the top of her class, she had worked hard, devoting most of her time to her studies, and had succeeded in getting as good an education as the Academy had to offer.
None of that had been enough to prepare her for the reality of life aboard the Enterprise. It was one thing to read about the size of the known universe, but quite another to look out onto the true vastness of space and realise just how tiny you are by comparison. Similarly, while it was one thing to look at a schematic of the Enterprise, it was quite another to physically walk the decks of a galaxy class starship.
Every single one of them. Repeatedly. All shift long.
Kitty was in good physical condition, but she had struggled after a while to keep pace with her senior officer After a long day spent making the rounds, Kitty's feet hurt, her legs were sore, and she was absolutely exhausted.
As a result, when William decided to intrude into her room early that morning, Kitty did not quite spring into action, as she usually would have done upon being unexpectedly awakened. Instead, what followed her initial start into semi-consciousness was more of a sort of ooze towards wakefulness than anything else. She would be able to respond to her surroundings eventually, but that time was not quite now.
Why was she awake? There was someone talking to her. Why had that person taken it upon themselves to disturb her slumber?
Well. They'd better have a fucking good reason, or there would be hell to pay.
The sound that came out of Kitty's mouth was something primitive and yet easily comprehensible. In the nonsense string of syllables moaning their way past her teeth, the very distinct message of ‘Piss off, too early’ came right through.

William knew that there were many ways to wake up Kitty yet only a few things that would get the job done quietly. He knew this through experience. After all, he had known the girl for ages.
The cadet cast a look around the room. When he was certain no one was stirring he crept onto Kitty's bunk and sat on her. No doubt she would wake to see a William Cynwrig looking very pleased with himself.

Things were better for a moment. There was no noise, no shaking. Perhaps her positively bestial early morning grumbling had scared the intruder off.
Kitty had just begun to drift off again when a tremendous weight settled onto her, crushing any remaining hope she had of getting a little peace and quiet. Pinned as she was, she could hardly breathe, let alone fall back asleep.
Defeated, she opened her eyes to identify her assailant, though by now she was alert enough to have a fairly good idea of who was responsible for this. She couldn't think of anybody else onboard daft enough to brave her morning wrath. And indeed, as the world before her slowly came into focus, she recognized the grinning face of her friend.
“Will.” Despite the fact that she was groggy, cranky, and slowly suffocating under the weight on her chest, there was a note of fondness in Kitty's voice. Yesterday had been so packed with new people and places that it was surprisingly comforting to see a familiar face.
Nice as it was, no one escaped a lashing after disturbing her sleep, no matter how fond she happened to be of that person. Breathlessly and without much conviction, she added, “Fuck you.”
