aftermath || barty & bellatrix
Bellatrix did not look towards the boy as
she spoke. Instead, she busied herself with the
removal of her shoes, nimble fingers making
quick work of the laces.
“I do not believe that to have been a
particularly successful encounter,” she said,
voice harsh.”They do not trust me. It will take
time before I am accepted by the group at
large.”
She scowled. Fools, the lot of them. Had
Bellatrix been a different sort of woman, their fear
very well could have proved fatal, alienating a
woman who could prove either to be an invaluable
ally or the destroyer of all that they had built up.
As it was, she would bear the indignity of their
mistrust – for now. She would only be patient for
so long.

Re: aftermath || barty & bellatrix
His face, even more so than was usual for him, seemed to have adopted the expression of a perpetual frown ever since the meeting. It had, of course, occurred to him that she might not be accepted at first - he hadn’t been either - but still the amount of suspicion and disrespect that had been sent her way was baffling to him, for he had no idea how to explain it.
Maybe it was the fact that she was a woman in addition to the fact that she still had connections to the pureblood world that had created these borderline hostile responses. Maybe if it had been only one or the other, she would have been mostly fine.
“I told you most of them are idiots, but that’s not important. I mean, most people are idiots, in general”, he said, somehow managing for what must have been the first time in his life not to sound rude or dismissive, despite the content of his words.
“As soon as they see how you are, all of this will evaporate”

Re: aftermath || barty & bellatrix
Bellatrix paused for a moment, smiling slightly. There was
truth in that. It was, perhaps, unfair to expect better from her new
associates. Though their hearts were undoubtedly in the right place,
they were still human beings. Still flawed. Still scared.
The Muggle-born members in particular had reason to be
suspicious. They did not know enough about wizarding society to
distinguish between friend and foe, at least at first glance, and so it
was understandable that any pureblood should be met with at least
a degree of unease.
That was no excuse, though. They should realize just how
much Bellatrix had to lose by helping their cause – her family, her
husband, her very way of life all would be lost to her if her
involvement with the Order ever became public.
“They are lucky,” she said, crossing her arms. “Lucky that I
have pledged my allegiance not out of any desire for thanks or
approbation. If I did not feel compelled to do what I believe to be
right, I would not tolerate this sort of treatment.”

Re: aftermath || barty & bellatrix
The boy finally seemed to be able to relax a little, after he had spotted the creeping smile on her lips, though it was a thoroughly irrational action. He knew that to see her smile in such context couldn’t mean a good thing, and that bitterness was the least that could be hiding behind it right now.
It made sense, too. Bellatrix just for the way she held herself, was prone to inspire respect wherever she went. It was not all too surprising that someone like her was not used to being regarded with such scrutiny and suspicion.
Still, he leaned back, and gave her a smirk in return, as was his nature.
”What would you have them go through, then, if they weren’t so lucky”, he asked, half curious, half attempting to distract her with more interesting thoughts.

Re: aftermath || barty & bellatrix
“You’ve an impudent face and an impudent tongue to match,” Bellatrix said, though the corner of one mouth was slightly turned up, betraying her amusement. “You should take care – not everyone is as tolerant of insolent young wizards as I am.”
She did not respond to his question immediately. For several long moments, she busied herself with a carafe of wine, pouring a glass for both herself and for her guest.
It was not until she had set Barty’s drink down on the table in front of him before settling herself on the sofa opposite that she finally spoke.
“I am a woman of honour,” she said, toying with the stem of her glass. “A woman of integrity. I would never be so infantile as to give in to the temptation to seek revenge over something as insignificant as a social snub. Were I otherwise?” She grinned, the malice in her eyes utterly at odds with the expression. “With my connections to members of both the Ministry and the Dark Lord’s followers, it would be the work of an hour to bring each and every member of the Order of the Phoenix to ruin without even having to leave my bedroom.”

By then, the little smirk on his face was slowly starting to transform into a full-fleshed grin. Bellatrix, after all, was one of the very few people who knew to delight him, even when their own moods did not match up to that message.
“Good. If I wasn’t so insolent, as you say it, I would not be here right now”, he said, “Merlin forbid - just imagine what would have become of poor old me, if I had been born a ‘respectable’ little boy… Yuck”
Barty grimaced in mock-disgust, his face shaping into an absurd mask of shock and revulsion, just before he simply shook his head, letting out what had meant to be a small chuckle, but had ended up as little more than a glorified cough.
The boy leaned back, and lazily crossed his arms in front of his torso, awaiting her response, and watching her sup her wine, while he completely ignored his own drink. The woman knew that he did not like alcohol, or at least he was pretty sure that she did. To refuse the beverage at this moment, or to ask for something else would have only served to convince her of his immaturity, and so, he said nothing.
He pondered her words only or a moment before he gave his reply.
“Even Dumbledore?”, he asked, a sly smile curling over his lips.

Re: aftermath || barty & bellatrix
“Merlin forbid,” Bellatrix said. Her tone was solemn, but the hint of a smile pulled at the corner of her mouth, betraying her amusement.
She didn't mind showing her fondness. Barty knew that she cared for him, and he rewarded her affection with utter devotion. He may not have been aware of the reality of their relationship, but Bellatrix knew that he needed her, and for her part, she felt somehow responsible for him. He was hers to protect, hers to command.
“You're right, of course,” she said. “Who, after all, could possibly bring down the great Albus Dumbledore?”
After a heavy pause, she cast him a distinctly predatory smile. “I could. With ease.”

"Yeah, I know. You would know how to do the things others deem impossible", he said, "And besides - he's getting kind of ancient, don't you think?"
The grin he gave her, then, was thoroughly genuine, having nothing at all to do with the mental image he had indulged them with just a moment ago, and everything to do with how... pleased he was that his way of distracting her and getting her out of her mood had actually worked. It was an odd sensation, being glad for someone elses positivity, if not entirely unfamiliar. He would just have to ignore the embarrassment over being in touch with an actual human emotion.
"Soon enough, they'll see it, too", he said, "You are more valuable than they could ever imagine. That's why it's so good to have you here"
Oh, Merlin, that was the nicest thing he said all month. Would he be forced to coat his tongue in soap later this evening?
