Because Decimus’ mother died when he was five years old, and his father did not seem to take an interest in actually nurturing him, he learned to be independent early in his life.

Yet, his father was not completely absent from his life, and the lessons that he did get from him had a long-lasting impact on the man as they were traumatizing lessons of hatred and violence. For his father it was apparently not enough to just tell him about all the different groups he considered inferior to them - Muggles, Muggleborns, blood traitors, Squibs, disabled people, etc. - No, he had to show it to him all in detail. Very distinctly does Decimus remember one specific occurrence where his father had ordered him to drink a pint of Muggle blood, only to demonstrate to him how “dirty” it was. He had thrown up for hours afterwards.

All of these efforts appeared to have stuck with him, for he joined the ranks of the Death Eaters right after he finished Hogwarts, seemingly without as much as a second thought. The problem with that, however, was that the man had never been a directly violent person by nature an all that exposure to violence he had beforehand seemed to have only made these matters more severe, making him strongly averse to physical or magical violence. This, of course, only gave him difficulties when it came to his service to the Dark Lord - he barely managed to grit his teeth through it, but he did it any how because he knew there was no way out for him.

In the meanwhile, his father had remarried and had had another child, a daughter. However, Decimus only ever met his new sister five years after her birth, when his father’s new wife mysteriously killed herself, for he had moved out by then. When he met little Titiana, though, the man was immediately taken by her and volunteered to come back in order to look after his sister.

His initial impression had not fooled him, as he soon discovered that looking after the girl brought him much joy and seeing her again after he had to put on his Mask was the only thing that was able to put his mind at ease then. Indeed, this contrast between the dreadful experience he was having as a Death Eater and the state of happiness and relaxation that his sister brought him was the main reason why he became so obsessed with her.

This state of bliss, however, was interrupted when his sister turned eighteen and his father revealed to him his intention of arranging a marriage for the girl. Decimus could not bear the thought of having his sister taken away from him. In a rush of panic, he brought Titiana to elope with him, and made sure to impregnate her, as to guarantee that his father could not simply force them apart again.

In the face of these events, their father eventually gave up and simply allowed them to be together, on the grounds that at least neither of them had made themselves a blood traitor.

As had been done with her brother, Titiana was brought to endure her fathers horrifying lessons as soon as she was able to speak in full sentences.

With her, it left her fearful, panicked, and trembling of every word she heard that was even vaguely referring to the subject of the matter. It was all just an elaborate horror show to her, but in the end it did work - in its own twisted way. It installed a vitriolic hatred of Muggles, Muggleborns, and anyone else connected to that in the slightest. If only because their mere existence was so closely associated with these violent lessons in her mind. To this day, it is as though somewhere in her subconscious she believes that if these groups did not exist, she would never have had to endure these sessions, and she uses that as a justification to advocate for their complete extinction.

The girl did not actually meet her half-brother until she was about five years old, but when she did, his presence in her life felt like a knight in shining armor, sweeping in for her daring rescue - and she absolutely adored him for it. He, in turn, showered her in love and affection, putting any unpleasant memories or events not relating to him right out of her mind.

There were no secrets between the two, though, it seemed. He always told her of everything he did while she was not with him, not even sparing her the horrific details of his exploits as a Death Eater - In fact, she soon discovered that he seemed to expect her to comfort him for them, which was a task that she fulfilled dutifully, no matter how much it upset her initially or brought back traumatizing memories. It was the least she could do for him, after all.

Going off to Hogwarts was very difficult for both of them. Not only were they suddenly separated, and she was forced to share some of her space with “filth”, as she called them - but even the pureblood children did not seem to take all too kindly on her. All those years of being pampered by her brother had made her into a haughty, spoilt, and arrogant girl who had a high demand for attention and the nasty habit to throw petty tantrums when she did not immediately receive it. As a result, it did not take too long for the other children to start treating her with contempt.

She, however, still craved for attention, love, and affection - and so she longed to be reunited with her brother every day she was there, though she did not truly understand yet just in what way he craved her back. That summer when she returned from her first year at Hogwarts was the first time his affections turned more than familial, and she did not know or even think to resist him.

Her years at Hogwarts repeated themselves in this manner and with every year the unrealistic and unhealthy idealization she harboured for her brother seemed to grow. So, when she turned eighteen and discovered her fathers plans for her, she was completely shocked at the prospect of ever marrying someone else, and agreed to run off with Decimus without a second thought.
